Current AmeriCorps opportunities

ˇCityArts! is seeking twenty (20) part-time Teaching Artists to join our AmeriCorps Expanded Day Teaching Artist Project (EDTAP) team. This program will be the first of its kind in our state to assign a corps of teaching artists to enrich the expanded day model of student learning. Through artist residencies in schools, increased after school curriculum-based projects and innovation in creative skills building, EDTAP aims to improve student performance, attendance, behavior and literacy levels and establish a strong foundation for youth to achieve to their fullest potential from the moment their school day starts, to after school, to home and to their community.

EDTAP AmeriCorps Part-time Teaching Artists will primarily teach during the afterschool portion of the expanded day in programs including PASA Club AfterZone, 21CLC and CityArts Open Enrollment. Afterschool arts will connect with academic curricula and introduce students to new artistic media/concepts to excite the development of their own creative practices.

EDTAP AmeriCorps Teaching Artist Criteria:
- Available to serve part-time including occasional weekends in order to complete 300 hours of service
- Commit to AmeriCorps service, with a tentative start date of October 1, 2010*
- Bachelor degree in art or related field preferred
- Experience teaching in a community or school setting strongly preferred

AmeriCorps Minimum Time volunteers will receive an education award of $1,132 at the completion of 300 hours of service. For volunteers 55 years of age or older, awards are transferrable to children, foster children and grandchildren.

If interested in being considered for this opportunity, please send cover letter and resume to genise@providencecityarts.org.

“It’s just amazing how much your mindset changes when you walk into CityArts. Suddenly your priorities completely shift. You don’t have a chance to worry about your personal problems. It becomes all about the kids. There’s something beautiful in that…and something beautiful in having kids that are looking forward to seeing you every week.”
